Peer Leadership Program

The Peer Leadership Program provides adolescents with information on a variety of teen concerns such as smoking, drugs, reproductive health and sexuality.  The purpose of the program is to increase teenagers’ self-esteem, encourage family communication while offering rewarding work and volunteer experience.  This weekly program provides the tools necessary for an adolescent to address issues relevant to their peers and other young people in their community as well become successful and productive citizens in society.

Thirty-two students are accepted into this program (16 in Orange County and 16 in San Bernardino County). Once accepted, the participants attend weekly 4-hour sessions where they learn about drug prevention, smoking, teen pregnancy, birth control and sexually transmitted infections.  Participants in the program also receive skills-based training in video and music production; web design and office skills.  A stipend based upon program participation is included in the program.
